National Public Radio’s (NPR) senior economics contributor Chris Farrell traveled to Northwestern Minnesota to understand the successful workforce hiring and retention practices at rural businesses like Marvin, headquartered in Warroad, Minnesota. He speaks with Marvin CEO Paul Marvin, who shares how the company has avoided layoffs throughout its history. “That’s not a small thing to say, ‘Our people are our biggest priority,’” says Paul. “A lot of people say it, but your actions actually have to back it up. So, we said it, and then said ‘How might we do this?’”
