Comprehensive Testing

To ensure maximum performance in the field, Marvin applies persistent pressure tests of 9,000 cycles to simulate hurricane-force winds.

Products are tested using an 8-foot-long, 2" x 4" stud launched at 50 feet per second to ensure they withstand impact to the center and corners.

What are Impact Windows and Doors?

Whether you live in extreme weather regions or simply require extra sound protection for your home, Marvin offers a wide range of impact-rated windows and doors to meet building codes, stand up to storms, and showcase your spaces with beauty and style. Reinforced construction, impact glass, and durable materials combine to safeguard your home without sacrificing aesthetics.

Are hurricane windows the same as impact windows?

Some impact windows are designed specifically for areas frequented by hurricanes or hurricane conditions. The level of protection varies. Talk to a contractor, architect, or structural engineer to understand the applicable building codes in your region.

What can impact windows withstand?

Premium impact windows are engineered to withstand high winds and flying debris generated by severe storms and hurricanes.

What wind speed are impact windows rated for?

Products with impact-resistant glass are rated for their ability to withstand wind speeds in various, predetermined wind debris zones called Impact Zones, or IZ for short. Areas prone to hurricanes and storms involving high wind speeds are categorized into four zones, each with their own building code certification standards.

Are there different grades of impact windows?

Yes. Our Ultimate and Elevate product lines include IZ3 products.

Which Marvin collections carry impact-rated products?

Select Marvin Ultimate and Elevate windows and doors are available with impact ratings.

"The climate here is somewhat severe, so the house has to be designed to conform to hurricane codes, sideways rain, and they get thunderstorms here that blow a hundred miles an hour and then are gone. So, there's a lot of that that has to be considered in the structure -- and the strength of the windows and doors.”
