Marvin Windows Transform Home of Dwell's President

Michela O’Connor Abrams leads one of America’s smartest design-centered media organizations. Yet Abrams, president of Dwell Media, felt that her own home wasn’t living up to the standards embodied by Dwell. With some prodding from her husband, Alan, Abrams undertook a project that would transform her Marin County, Calif., home — without major structural renovation — by installing new Marvin windows and doors.
The Abrams home is marvelously situated on a wooded hillside overlooking the Golden Gate Recreation Area. But small windows and bulky blinds meant that the home wasn’t taking advantage of the spectacular view. Working with independent Marvin dealer Old Town Glass, the Abramses replaced the existing small windows with large, contemporary Marvin windows and also added a new Marvin patio door. The transformation is stunning, as you can see in these videos.
In the video above, Abrams and Christine Marvin, marketing director for Marvin Windows and Doors, discuss the project at the 2013 Dwell on Design conference. It’s a great look at a project that really demonstrates how windows can completely change the livability and usability of a home, without adding to the footprint or drastically altering the structure.
We’re thrilled to have helped one of America’s premier design advocates make her own home more beautiful, enjoyable and functional.
