Antique and new sustainable materials create a warm, rustic contemporary home

Exterior View Of Large House With Marvin Windows and Doors

Ben’s Barn combines charming antique materials and sustainable new materials to create an energy-efficient contemporary home with a warm, rustic look.

The owner wanted to incorporate materials salvaged from an old farmhouse and barn that had stood on another portion of the property. The timber roof structure, interior wood cladding, and interior doors were taken from that farmhouse and used in the interior, giving the home a vintage warmth and appeal.

To complete the remodel, the windows and doors were replaced with Marvin Elevate and Marvin Essential collection products including casement, awning, double hung, and specialty shape windows, and elevate inswing and sliding French doors. Elevate products feature wood interiors that were stained to coordinate with the vintage aesthetic and the building’s architecture.

Another goal was to use highly energy efficient, affordable materials. Elevate and Essential windows and doors not only met the owner’s budget, they provided the ideal combination of energy efficiency and style. Built to be tough and long-lasting to withstand Maine’s harsh climate, the home will provide comfort and security for years to come.
