North Woods Lake House across the Lawn
Architect: Todd Hansen, Albertsson Hansen Architecture, Ltd.
Sited on the crest of a gentle rise, this northern Minnesota lake home was designed to create a life-long residence and gathering space for friends and family. The design was based on simplified, traditional residential forms with a variety of outdoor spaces from which to enjoy the property, inspired by American country and farm houses. Inside, the living spaces are open to one another to allow for casual, modern living, while maintaining definition as a series of interconnected rooms. The generously sized, first level living room is open through the center of the house to provide sweeping views of the lake and to take advantage of breezes. The residence integrates Marvin’s Double Hung windows and French doors into a classic, American residential architectural style. The flexibility of the sizing allowed the inclusion of 4’ x 7’ Double Hung windows in the main rooms facing the lake. This mimicked the scale of a large, picture window without the “too-modern” connotations of large, plain glazing. Marvin products met high performance criteria while achieving the style that the architect and owners were seeking. This beautiful, daylight-flooded home in northern Minnesota was made possible by the integration of Marvin products.
