The Old Red House
Architect: Robert Knight
Architect Firm: Knight Associates, Inc.
Location: Downeast, ME
Project Type: New Construction
The homeowners bought one of the oldest houses in the town, with the initial intention of renovation. However, the building could not be renovated. The new design captured the essence of what the old building felt like on the site, and also gave the owners a much more open plan, an extremely energy-efficient envelope, and a thoroughly modern building that feels just like the one that had originally been there. The quality of the detailing in Marvin windows allowed the duplication of the much older and simpler sashes that were in the original building.
