Architect: Peter Springsteel
Architect Firm: Peter Springsteel Architect, LLC
Location: Mystic, CT
Project Type: Replace and Remodel
This mammoth renovation required the structure to be gutted down to its original stone masonry perimeter wall, which was built over three separate time periods dating back to the 1850s. The castle-like forms of the stone masonry, including a crenellated parapet and gothic arched entrances, became the street side theme of the building. In back, the original window openings were restored with Marvin products to take advantage of the elevated southern view. Nearly all of the Marvin windows and doors for this home were customized to fit existing masonry openings of all shapes, sizes, and muntin layouts. The flexibility of these custom products was crucial to preserving the character in the building with modern functionality.
