Sustainable Urban Villa
Architect: Gary Wolf, AIA
Architect Firm: Wolf Architects, Inc.
Location: Cambridge, MA
Project Type: Replace and Remodel
This project took a dated, 1960s ranch-style home with a chopped up floor plan, and turned it into a sprawling, two-story modern interpretation of a traditional Cape Cod-style home. The design was driven by the homeowners’ desire to open their floor plan and marry the new open floor plan with their passion for outdoor living. The goal was to create a dramatic exterior that utilized traditional Cape house elements and partner that with unique details, like the metal roof and red cedar at the main entrance. The custom woodwork and craftsmanship on the interior of the home mixed the same traditional Cape house elements with coastal-inspired details, modern accents, and craftsman-style influences. Marvin products helped achieve the homeowners’ goals of creating greater scale and more light, and of bringing the feel of the outdoors inside the home.
