North Woods Lake Home
Architect Name: Todd Hansen

This project is a great accomplishment in that it successfully joins a program for generous everyday living to a beautiful site. The client’s goal for their new home was to create a life-long residence and gathering space for their family and friends on a northern Minnesota lake. Sited on the crest of a gentle rise, the design was based on simplified, traditional residential forms with a variety of outdoor spaces from which to enjoy the property.
Inside, the living spaces are open to one another to allow for casual, modern living while maintaining definition as a series of interconnected rooms. The generously sized, first level living room is open through the center of the house to provide sweeping views of the lake and to take advantage of breezes. Due to the high ground water level precluding a basement, a generous family room is located on the second level. This sun-filled room also runs through the center of the floor plan, capturing beautiful lake views and connecting bedrooms and service spaces of the house.
The house successfully combines a traditional simple gable formed exterior with the goal of open plan living that is modern in sensibility and highly functional.
Marvin products met high performance criteria while achieving the style that the architect and owners were seeking. This beautiful, daylight-flooded home in Northern Minnesota was made possible by the integration of Marvin products.
