Cape Rosier Home
Architect: Bruce Stahnke
Firm: Bruce + Kitagawa Architects
Location: Cape Rosier, ME
Project Type:
This project is an off-the-grid house that has a super-insulated building envelope, passive solar under-slab heat storage, solar electric generation, solar hot water, and rainwater collection. In addition to this the envelope is very airtight and the house has an HRV ventilation unit with an underground thermal tempering system for intake air. The overall size and volume of the house is not large but seems larger than it is. The goal was to integrate all of the elements of the house to create a very energy-efficient design, while making sure that this goal didn’t appear to be the main intention. The windows from Marvin were an essential part of creating a design that was as efficient as it was aesthetically pleasing.
