Peaks Season

Maine Home + Design told the story of an updated cottage on Peaks Island. While the husband-and-wife homeowners wanted a contemporary aesthetic, they also considered the look and feel of other cottages in the area, and decided to design theirs to fit in seamlessly. The couple brought two priorities to the team at Whitten Architects: an open main floor, and lots of natural light. The house faces northwest — not ideal for sunlight. However, the team incorporated large Marvin windows on all sides to bring in us much light as possible. Light oak finishes inside also help the space feel airy and inviting.
