Committing to Memory

Maine Home + Design told about an old barn's transformation to a contemporary and sustainable second home for a Maine couple. The barn was in need of serious renovations to make it a livable space. It was wide open inside with visible catwalks through the roof's trusses, and it had no utilities. While much needed changing, one original piece of the house was restored - a floor constructed of wood from Liberty ships in WWII.

The homeowners honored the old barn's history, while making it their own. Inside, they combined its original rustic structure with Art Deco and Modern furniture. For energy efficiency, they incorporated Marvin windows and French doors.
