Portrait Windows for Former Church

Sag Harbor Express covered the story of an old Methodist Church in New York, which was transformed into a space for artists to collaborate and create. The building, renamed simply “The Church,”  went through extensive renovations, and the Sag Harbor Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review was faced with many tough decisions in the process. One such decision was on the type of window to install in the building. In an extremely rare move, the board ultimately agreed on Marvin aluminum clad casement windows. While the windows were initially deemed “too modern” for the historic building, the benefits of custom sizes and minimal maintenance couldn’t be beat.

Eric Fischl and April Gornik own the building, and are artists themselves. Fischl plans to paint portraits on ten of the large windows on the sides of the buildings — portraits of figures important to the area’s cultural history.
