Eco-friendly mansion uses Marvin Windows

Spacious houses with extra-large yards are often derided as “McMansions,” wasteful of the materials it takes to build them, the energy necessary to heat and cool them, and the water needed to maintain the lawn. Not Carl and Nan Adams’ 8,700-square-foot house in Nashville’s exclusive Forest Hills neighborhood.

Carl, an environmental engineer with an international clientele, was determined to make their home and its surrounding six-acre property a showcase of environmental stewardship as well as craftsmanship. The result is a stunning home constructed largely with recycled materials, including stone from 1800s-era tobacco warehouses in southern Middle Tennessee.

The home also includes Marvin “Low E” windows with argon gas between the panes help keep the house cool. They’re among the more than 150,000 product options that meet or exceed stringent federal ENERGY STAR standards. Learn more about the home in this article from the Tennessean.
