Discovering Additional Potential

A family realizes the full potential of their outdoor space by building a modern addition that lets the view take top billing.

Spending time in their serene and secluded back yard has always been an integral part of each day for this young family of four. But the majority of windows in the house faced toward the street and the only access to the back yard was through a single patio door in the kitchen. The owners decided to renovate their existing house and create an addition that would seamlessly connect old and new, inside and out. The addition consists of three spaces: a master suite, dining room and screened in porch—each of which allowed for expansive windows.

For this renovation project, architect Jon Hensley chose Marvin Elevate Collection windows and doors for the durability and ease of maintenance of the tough exterior finish, and the natural beauty of stained wood on the interior.

Hensley was able to include larger and more modern Casement, Awning, Specialty Shapes and Inswing French Doors in the addition; and installed Casement Narrow Frame and Double Hung Insert windows in the existing house.

Marvin was able to provide all window types in contrasting styles but complementary finishes. By using large floor-to-ceiling windows with narrow profiles, views of the backyard are invited into the home.
