What Is LEED Certification?

The beautiful Massachusetts home pictured here is also extremely energy-efficient and sustainably built. A winner in the 2011 Marvin Architect’s Challenge, Overlook House achieves light environmental impact while producing visually rich and architecturally satisfying spaces.

Designed by architect Marcus Gleysteen, the home also earned a LEED Silver certification. So, what’s LEED?

It stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and it’s administered by the U.S. Green Building Council. Here’s a good overview of LEED certification. Basically, LEED certification encourages the building of homes (and commercial properties) that achieve high performance in key areas of human and environmental health:

  • Sustainable site development
  • Water savings
  • Energy efficiency
  • Materials selection
  • Indoor environmental quality

There are four LEED levels: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. We’re proud to say that there are Marvin products in certified buildings among all of those categories, including the Platinum-certified home of the founder of the U.S. Green Building Council.

With Marvin, you don’t have to sacrifice beauty or custom design to achieve world-class energy efficiency and sustainability.
