This Chicago-area home was badly in need of an update. The 1970s-era ranch house was dark and gloomy, with small rooms that made the whole space feel compartmentalized. In addition, the connection to a beautiful backyard was seriously underplayed.
New Marvin windows and patio doors, along with removing interior walls to create an uninterrupted flow leading to the rear, helped brighten the space. The designer reclaimed additional space by raising the ceiling slightly into the attic above.
It’s a great solution to a problem found in may older homes. Larger, brighter spaces feel better and live better. How’s your house working for you?
