Foldable lamp from Issey Miyake

It’s always interesting when fashion designers start designing for the home. Their fashion know-how can lead to great creativity, but sometimes it just doesn’t translate. Issey Miyake has designed a home collection, and it looks like he has made the leap with his vision.

Design Milk recently featured this lamp, and we love it too! According to Design Milk, it’s “Born from the 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE project in which clothing can be folded flat but also become a three-dimensional form…” You can see in the photos below how the concept works for the light.

What do you think of this light? Cool new designer item or expensive Ikea knock-off?

It's clever and has a great form when unfolded, but completely useless. Why would you need to fold a light fixture? And where is the "light" part of it. Does it hang or is it a lamp?
