Impact and Cycle Testing Video Watch our impact and cycle testing in action. (1:34) | |
Impact Testing Marvin's StormPlus products are designed, tested and certified for energy efficiency, driving rain, impact resistance and cyclic pressure. |
| |
1. Test Preparation The product is installed in a test wall as it would be in a home, and a 2 x 4 is launched from an air cannon, typically at speeds of 40' to 50' per second, depending on the code. |
| |
2. Impact Simulation The length of the 2 x 4 varies by certification level - usually 4' or 8' in length. Some codes require the product to withstand multiple impacts, one to the center and a second in the window's corner. |
| |
3. Examination After impact, the glass is checked for holes and rips that exceed certification criteria. The glass will shatter, but its laminated layers must preserve the product's structural integrity. |
| |
4. Pressure Cycling The StormPlus window or door undergoes pressure cycling tests. A cycling test simulates the intense pushing and pulling forces of hurricane winds. |
