The owners originally planned on putting in aluminum windows and a pre-fit panning system. However, these full-frame windows cut down on the square footage of glazing, keeping them from meeting local historic preservation requirements.
The Marvin® solution was to install panning over the existing frames and use Marvin’s Tilt Pac® fo R sash replacement. Rapid prototyping was used to develop extruded aluminum panning that precisely replicated the profile of the existing frame. This allowed for installation of a sash that had the same amount of glass as previous windows.
The two-piece panning system developed by Marvin Signature Services for units with arched exteriors and rectangular interiors was very unique. An aluminum extrusion was made to fill the arched masonry opening on the exterior. The same extrusion was installed as the vertical mullion cover. Panning was attached to the frame and followed the edge of the milled infill panel on the exterior, squaring off with the window on the interior. Other rectangular units and true archtops, as pictured, utilized a one-piece panning design. For added efficiency, all of the panning for arched units, both single and multiple assemblies, were pre-assembled.
Using a mock-up sample of a window, the Marvin team provided detailed, comprehensive training to the local dealer and crew responsible for installing these windows.
- Rapid prototyping ensured all details were precisely met
- The Marvin Signature team engineered a unique two-piece panning system for three-wide units that had arched infill panels on the exterior, while retaining their original rectangular shape on the interior
- Marvin’s support team worked closely with the local Marvin dealer, ensuring the installation of the windows was smooth and successful
- The flexible and responsive Marvin Signature team was able to adjust the delivery timing of the windows to best fit the rigid timeline of the project
