University of Minnesota students build energy-neutral home

By Marvin Windows September 18, 2009

Leaning on the benefits of solar energy, students at the University of Minnesota are building an energy-neutral home as an entry in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition.

Among the several efficiency-minded features, the house uses Marvin triple-pane windows and glass that tints with a flip of a switch to block out excess light and heat to provide greater efficiency.

As Fox 9 News reports, the students hope they can sell this house after the competition to recoup some of the money and enter the competition again.

This Minnesota Public Radio story has more on the project, as well.
