We admit it — we’re homers. So we were delighted to see this Minneapolis home featured in the New York Times. Elizabeth Foy Larsen and her husband, Walter Schliesman, got their three kids involved in decorating the family home. Not many parents would be willing to turn over such decision-making to the children. But Larsen believes it was a good learning experience for the whole family.
It also served as research for her recently published book, “Unbored: The Essential Field Guide to Serious Fun.” “The decorating-your-room chapter came directly out of having my kids create environments they liked,” Larsen told the Times.
The Larsen home is designed for maximum light to combat the long Minnesota winters. The decor features an eclectic array of vintage and modern items with a bias toward easy care. It’s a fun, inviting environment that works on many levels.
