Stunning Modern Home on Existing FoundationBy Marvin Windows
This stunning home was dubbed “Cliff House” by its architect, Seattle-based Scott Allen, and its easy to see why.
Tucked along the water’s edge in Gig Harbor, Washington, the home was built on an existing foundation to conform to shoreline use regulations. Taking advantage of the location, the home was built up, with the roof serving as a ground-level extension of the bluff top. A glass-enclosed elevator brings visitors down to the living levels.
Inside, the home mimics the feel of a boat’s cabin. Beautiful and durable Douglas fir was used on ceilings, walls, and trims. Large, oversized windows and doors invite the outside in, and provide natural ventilation flow. Exterior materials were chosen for durability and performance in the coastal environment, including copper, concrete, metal window cladding, and cedar.
This is one of our favorite Modern Monday features yet!
