Spectacular Lake Superior GetawayBy Marvin Windows
This amazing cabin home on the shore of Lake Superior, on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is the subject of a fascinating article on Houzz. We often link to Houzz photo galleries, but we really enjoyed the insights writer Becky Harris drew from speaking with the home’s architect, Nils Finne.
For example: The corrugated metal siding is often subject to ferocious attacks by woodpeckers. (We bet it’s a rude surprise when they discover what they’re trying to peck!) The architect designed the home without a deck in deference to the bug population of the northern woods. Instead, the main living space with its operable windows functions as a screened porch.
The Houzz article doesn’t mention it, but this house was also a winner in the 2011 Marvin Architect’s Challenge, which recognizes the best designs from around the world that use Marvin windows and doors.
