Remodelers Showcase Tour

By ,

Every year, the Parade of Homes holds a Remodelers Showcase in the Twin Cities area. Local remodelers show their best projects–it’s a great way to get inspiration for an upcoming (or even a dream) remodeling project.

This year, we visited houses in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, and Edina. Both places are Minneapolis favorites: near the Chain of Lakes, close to lots of shops and restaurants and both are chocked full of beautiful older homes. The homes we visited strived to honor the character of the area, while renovating for greater space, more modern kitchen and bathroom areas, and of course, beautiful, energy efficient Marvin windows and doors.

This Spanish style house put an addition on the back to accommodate a new kitchen and family room. The beautiful soapstone countertops and wood cabinets make this kitchen look like it has been there forever:

Marvin was chosen because we could match the windows used in the original front part of the house. The windows might look the same, but operate smoothly and are far more energy efficient than the originals.

The next house is a white brick midcentury rambler. The remodelers provided a more transitional space that hits both contemporary and traditional elements of architecture. Elements like classic subway tile, white countertops in the kitchen and windows painted black on the interior were key to developing the overall look.

A few blocks to the west in Edina sits this cottage, which featured a whole house remodel. A charming front porch and Marvin French door lead into a sensibly revised living room.

The kitchen included a main kitchen and a tucked-away pantry/staging area.

Upstairs are several bedrooms and bathrooms–we love the soft colors used to tie the upper story together.
