Montana homestead gets modern makeover

On a sprawling 17,000 acres in Montana, this abandoned homestead has been turned into a 2,800-square-foot modern residence that serves as the anchor of this ranch site.

The architects were charged with designing a structure that would complement—but not overwhelm—the neighboring buildings. The severe climate in south-central Montana was a major concern; temperatures can fluctuate by as much as 115 degrees and 75-mile-per-hour wind gusts are not uncommon.

The remodeled home features wood windows from Marvin and a host of other products that fit the sleek-but-comfortable rural feel. You can learn more about the project in this profile from Architectural Record.
