It’s here, it’s here! Colorphiles, rejoice: Pantone has announced its Color of the Year. This year’s color is a rich almost-neutral: Marsala. As you may have guessed from its name, the color does evoke wine, but isn’t a true purple–there’s a lot of brown mixed in.

This represents a change from previous years’ colors: Tangerine, Emerald and Radiant Orchid were all bright and/or bold colors. Whether you loved or hated them, you couldn’t tear your eyes away. Marsala is quite a bit more subdued. We’re not sure where we fall on the love/hate scale. It’s not our favorite Color of the Year, but it’s nice to see a color that is less “pop of color” and more  of a neutral that can be used across a variety of things like paint colors, furniture, textiles and clothing.

What do you think? Is Marsala just right or a bit ho-hum?
