Falling off a cliff (or not)

By ,

We love unusual houses and this might be one of the coolest we have ever seen. It might also take the trophy for most sickness-inducing house. It sort of looks like a house that got blown over in a storm and is now clinging–just barely–to a cliff’s side.

However, this is actually the way this house is supposed to be! Modscape, an Australian architectural firm, was “Inspired by the way barnacles cling to the hull of a ship, a concept was developed for a modular home to hang off the side of a cliff as opposed to sitting on top of it.”

So how does it work, physics-wise? Stacking, of course. Modscape used pre-fabricated modules to create levels that are held together with steel pins.

And how do you get in the house? It starts at the top of the cliff with a patio and parking. From there, you go level by level to eat, sleep, work and play. Since this is a highly vertical house, there is an elevator in addition to stairs. Here is a floor plan:

What do you think? Would you enjoy the gorgeous ocean views, or just worry about falling off a cliff?
