Contemporary Design: What it is and How to Get ItBy Marvin Windows
What is contemporary design? It’s not the easiest to define as it’s continually being defined – fluid, ever-shifting and a bit open-ended. As mentioned by relish interiors, “Contemporary by definition means ‘existing, occurring, or living at the same time; belonging to the same time.’ And that is exactly the same for the use of the term in interior design. Contemporary design refers to what is popular or used right now.”
Right now we’re seeing a continued contemporary design trend of large, expansive glass windows and doors – especially to help bring the outdoors in. Open plans are popular right now and finishes that incorporate natural elements are definitely trending. HGTV notes that contemporary furniture features clean lines and smooth surfaces without any carving or adornment, that fabrics such as silk, wool, linen and cotton are used for their textural aspect and inherent neutral hues, and lighting design is often used as an artistic statement in a contemporary interior.
But how do you incorporate new, contemporary stylings in your home? A great place to start is The Marvin Contemporary Studio. Not only will you find a series of on-trend Contemporary Studio Products and Accessories, but also several examples of projects with contemporary design elements.
