Architect's Challenge winner profile: Batts Hall by Simon Janes and Hugh Petter

This English countryside home might look like it was built many years ago, but Batts Hall is brand new, built as a modern adaptation of the “Arts & Crafts” homes from the early 1900s. This home presented a number of challenges for the architects Simon Janes and Hugh Petter, including how to maintain the tradition English charm while incorporating modern technologies.

Due to the level of personalization needed for the project, the architects chose a variety of Marvin windows and doors. Ultimate Casement windows and the Ultimate French swinging door were  chosen due to their classic looks, easy customization and energy efficiency.

The result is a stunning home that is highly energy-efficient and practical to maintain, incorporating the luxury finishes and facilities expected in a property of this caliber. Bill Devereaux, an Architect’s Challenge judge, described the home as a “fantastic interpretation of centuries-old architecture without just mimicking it. Not a reproduction but an interpretation.”
