A Tour of ASID's Showcase HomeBy Marvin Windows
Every year, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Minnesota Chapter produces a Showcase Home in partnership with Mpls. St. Paul Magazine. These homes bring in ASID-member interior designers to redesign every inch of the house. Each designer takes a particular space in the home to showcase their design skills, and together their expertise makes this house shine.
This year’s ASID Showcase Home is located in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, a quiet city of tree-lined streets and high-end shopping districts – making it a very desirable place to live. The house manages the tight balance of renovation and expansion with fitting into the neighborhood by keeping its mid-century design at the forefront, mixed with some well-placed modern updates.
Being a ranch house, this home flips the traditional idea of a living area downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. Instead, the main floor features the living, dining and kitchen areas, and the lower level includes several bedrooms and mixed-use spaces. A deceptively modest house when viewed from the street, it’s only once a person steps inside that they realize how expansive it truly is.
A palette of cool greys and neutral tones is a unifying thread throughout the home. Right off the entry, the kitchen is showcased as the heart of the home, with beautiful marble-styled Cambria countertops and an enviable wine refrigerator. The living and dining areas are positioned immediately off the kitchen, allowing the homeowners to easily gather for family meals and time together. With the master suite on the main floor, the house looks to the future, not only suited to the active family that lives there today, but a future with accessibility conveniences main floor living provides.
The basement is carefully designed and decorated to not feel like the typical dark lower level. With the children’s bedrooms located there, as well as a family room, exercise room and an office, this basement builds a lot of “hidden space” into the ASID Showcase Home.
Both Marvin and Integrity window products were chosen for this home. The Marvin Family of Brands‘ ability to produce large windows was important to making the house light and bright – especially for the lower level. Since the Marvin Family of Brands offers a comprehensive suite of window and door products, the ASID Showcase home was able to choose the exact products that suited the home’s needs.
If you’re in the Twin Cities, this home is open to the public until June 12, on Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information can be found here. Learn more at Mpls. St. Paul Magazine’s website.
