Video: Marvin honored with 2012 Family Business Award

Company cited for community service coupled with success under family leadership

WARROAD, Minn., Nov. 12, 2012 – Marvin Windows and Doors is honored to be among a select group of companies to win the 2012 Family Business Award from Twin Cities Business magazine. The awards were presented at a Nov. 8 dinner.

The Family Business Awards honor five outstanding family-owned businesses and the value they add to the Minnesota’s economy and overall quality of life. These businesses have strong records of success, family involvement, community service and philanthropy, multi-generational culture, and a positive family business structure.

In an editor’s note introducing the awards, Twin Cities Business Editor in Chief Dale Kurschner wrote:

“The Marvin family’s business acumen is incredible, and it seems well served by its values and its belief that a company is more than just an employer, it’s a community leader. … I can’t help but point first and foremost to the Marvin family for its outstanding achievements as business leaders and community stewards.”

Marvin Windows and Doors was founded in 1904 by George Marvin; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren own and operate the company today. Sixteen members of the third- and fourth-generation Marvin family work full-time for the company.

“We’re humbled by this recognition, and we share it with our valued employees and the communities where we operate,” said President Susan Marvin. “We believe our success as a company is inseparable from the success of our communities. They’ve supported us, and we in turn have supported them, for more than a century.”

Though the housing business was perhaps the hardest-hit industry during the economic downturn, Marvin didn’t lay off a single one of its more than 4,000 employees. The company’s efforts at job and community preservation have been publicly praised by leaders across the country.
