Design restraint characterizes this project. The client’s main aspiration was to create a family fishing retreat that takes full advantage of the lakefront views while maintaining optimal respect for its context. By stacking the program vertically, with the garage nestled into the existing hillside, the unique design creates a solution that is energy efficient, cost effective, and sustainable.
 
The linear cabin form, a perfect 1:3 proportion, is positioned to the northern edge of the property to capture the view corridor through a grove of existing birch trees, while allowing optimal southern light exposure to interior and exterior spaces. Windows and doors allow for maximum views while providing cross-ventilation through the cabin.
