Oldfield
Low Country of South Carolina
Oldfield is a green, traditional low-country cottage built with SIPs and impact-resistant windows. The site became the main inspiration for the design of the house, which is the architect’s home. A traditional look was very important in designing the house, but at the same time it was crucial to take advantage of the views and daylighting possibilities offered by the site. The location is in a hurricane zone, so storm protection is mandatory.
The primary design goals for this home were to:
- meet the criteria for Earthcraft House™ platinum certification
- take full advantage of the beautiful site
- fit the lifestyle of the occupants
- make efficient use of space
- create a home which fits in with the vernacular low-country style and, through attention to detail both inside and out, is both beautiful and functional
All design goals were met, and the home is a delight to live in.
